<image:title>Home - A Collaborative Care Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>There are large gaps in the systems of healthcare and education for persons of Black and African heritage. There are also inequitable outcomes across all sectors related to those gaps that must be addressed and resolved. The Black Mental Health Task Force seeks to identify policies, protocols, resources, and partners that support our ability to inform, engage, educate and collaborate effectively to de-stigmatize talking about and accessing care for mental health. Black Americans; Black Immigrants from the Continent of Africa, African-descended peoples from Latin America and the Caribbean; and any other ethnic group that identifies as being of Black & African Heritage are included in our efforts to empower the collective wellness of persons identifying as being of Black and African heritage. We must address the maladaptive impact of Systemic and Structural Racism in healthcare and educational settings on the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of persons living while presenting as being of Black or African heritage. This coalition is in support of an integrated collaborative care model that connects our community well-being to our ancestry as related to the African continent and each of our individual experiences of living and differing cultural practices. We also support incorporating our community’s shared collective trauma into the conversation when discussing change and diversity and inclusion. We believe the community itself can play an important role in creating the solutions that lead toward healing and recovery; and we are The Force demanding to have a seat at the table for those conversations or we are setting the table ourselves. JOIN THE MOVEMENT. We need you. Our Collective wellness needs every warrior on the team for the good trouble we engage in.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We are continuing the legacy of “making good trouble”! As we are a force to be reckoned with, all of our partners and volunteers work together as a strong coalition of action takers that command attention. This is how we show up in our neighborhoods. Our passion drives us to find congruency and build synergy between the resources we provide and the already established networks in the communities we love.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our Vision is to empower community members of Black and African Heritage through advocacy and policy reform for culturally informed and equitable access to housing, mental & physical health treatment, education, criminal justice, entrepreneurship and employment. The Black Mental Health Task Force is a coalition of California mental health professionals, clients, non-profit organizations, community-based organizations, educators, community leaders, entrepreneurs, students, and artists who have united to support mental health wellness within the African American community. In addition to connecting with community based organizations not yet in partnership; we are looking to positively impact Individuals who are looking to re-identify with who they are and develop a healthier sense of whole person wellness and community. We have been very intentional about bridging the gap between advocacy, clinical care and the community. We are acting as a connector between under-resourced communities and organizations. We fill the gap in the advocacy for mental health linkages and access to care.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Confidentiality. We want to create an atmosphere for open, honest exchange. Our primary commitment is to learn from each other. We will listen to each other and not talk at each other. We will trust that people are always doing the best they can. We will not demean, devalue, or “put down” people for their experiences, lack of experiences, or difference in interpretation of those experiences. Challenge the idea and not the person. If we wish to challenge something that has been said, we will challenge the idea or the practice referred to, not the individual sharing this idea or practice. Speak your discomfort. If something is bothering you, please share this with the group. Often our emotional reactions to this process offer the most valuable learning opportunities. Monitor Your Airtime. Be mindful of taking up much more space than others. On the same note, empower yourself to speak up when others are dominating the conversation. Maintain a brave atmosphere.</image:caption>

Each conversation focuses on a different topic. We want to connect community members to supportive resources and services needed to improve opportunities for healing and wholeness in their lives. Self-Care routines are the secret ingredient to happiness and health. Let us help you learn the strategies and build the community! Community leaders will share wisdom about how to address cannabis use/abuse in our community. We must address coping strategies as well as the relationship to the criminal justice system. Let's have real conversations about the issues facing the Black community and how can we empower our people to also take advantage of the business of cannabis. We are a SAFE and BRAVE space to talk about what we NEED to talk about to be well. Virtual event via zoom. Must register to receive link.</image:caption>
