Synergy in the Community

We want the community to have a sense of unity and momentum wherever they are in the process of becoming better. Synergy and deep meaningful connection with each other will help us collectively heal and flourish. We can be seen, heard, validated and represented. We are intentionally creating safe spaces for the Black and African heritage community. Our needs are valid and should be heard. We want to be the people that stand behind them to make change. “Rebuilding what we’ve coined as “group-esteem” is essential in rebuilding our community to its precolonial status. Black wellness will be empowered when we can cultivate group esteem and de-center individualism.

Community Guide Lines:

  • Confidentiality. We want to create an atmosphere for open, honest exchange.

  • Our primary commitment is to learn from each other. We will listen to each other and not talk at each other.

  • We will trust that people are always doing the best they can.

  • We will not demean, devalue, or “put down” people for their experiences, lack of experiences, or difference in interpretation of those experiences.

  • Challenge the idea and not the person. If we wish to challenge something that has been said, we will challenge the idea or the practice referred to, not the individual sharing this idea or practice.

  • Speak your discomfort. If something is bothering you, please share this with the group. Often our emotional reactions to this process offer the most valuable learning opportunities.

  • Monitor Your Airtime. Be mindful of taking up much more space than others. On the same note, empower yourself to speak up when others are dominating the conversation.

  • Maintain a brave atmosphere.
